THE WEEKLY WIND-UP
Fortnightly from February 15th
Townsville Arts Award winning group, TMPAS (The Townsville Music Performing Arts Space) and Full Throttle Theatre have joined forces to combine their open mic nights with FTTC’s wine and cheese nights. Relax after work on some comfy couches, sit on the cool verandahs, enjoy a cheese platter and a glass of wine or hang around for our late night BBQ from 8:30pm. Local music and entertainment abounds. If you are keen to perform - anything at all - put your name on the board before 6pm.
THE COMEDY GENERATION
Regular gigs are scheduled throughout 2013. This is a local stand up comedy group directed by Laurence Page. FTTC have been supporting Laurence for the last two years helping him develop his skills not just as a comedian but as a project manager.
NQ ROOTS CONNECTION
This is a local music group put together by long time musos Mike Emslie from the Longshots and Craig Smith from Pachooka. Together with FTTC they will host 3 music gigs a year featuring 4 local bands per gig.
SENIORS CREATING CHANGE
With Townsville Community Legal Service.
Together we will take the SCC on the road to visit regional communities. Seniors Creating Change are a Townsville-based group of people over the age of 55 who volunteer their time to sing suddenly and unexpectedly throughout NQ to raise awareness of seniors issues and to promote a positive image of ageing. Their efforts to date have resulted in numerous web and media articles, the annual Respect for Seniors March and raising the issue of elder abuse in the Australian Parliament. While having an enormous amount of fun, they continue to reduce social isolation for their peers in the community and encourage others to stay active and healthy.
Seniors Creating Change was developed by the Townsville Community Legal Service’s specialist Seniors Legal and Support Service (SLASS) as a prelude to World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2011. The project was designed around one of the findings of the Missing Voices: Views of Older Persons on Elder Abuse Report, which suggests that ageism, is a major cause of elder abuse. The report also recommends that older persons themselves be empowered to make changes in the community and raise issues of concern.
